Hi Dr David Unfortunately my husband has been terribly ill,

Pregunta del cliente

Hi Dr David
Unfortunately my husband has been terribly ill, the cyst that is in the pancreas apparentl;y created a hole in the splenic artery resulting in him having an emergency splenic artery rupture, he almost died, they embolized it, then he had a stroke on the right side , quite a large thrombosis, and after that teh blood clot created by the artery rupture was huge and located inbetween the spleen and pancreas, and collapsed onto the colon and created a hole in the colon, he had a drain inserted and he is fine, this all happened within 3 weeks!

he is doing really well, a little weak and tired easily but now we have lots of follow up appointments with scans for the neurologist , etc.............

he doesnt really have any symptoms, just slightly on the left side, but i think he has been very lucky.

once he has recovered from all of this, i want them to sort out this cyst in teh pancreas, and in my mind isnt it better to remove the tail of the pancreas? with the cyst in is? to avoid pancreatic cancer in the future?

let me know your thoughts
thanks and appreciated
melissa

Melissa: I regret what happened to her husband. I want to comment: Cystic tumors of the pancreas constitute a heterogeneous group of rare tumors (representing 10-15% of pancreaticcystic lesions), including serous tumors, mucinous and a miscellaneous group.
Cystic neoplasms of the pancreas should be resected completely by their malignant potential or existing malignancy. The mucinous cystadenocarcinomas be addressed in a radical and aggressive, and that in 65% of cases curative resection is possible, butsometimes requires removal of adjacent organs or portomesenteric axis.
The technique used for resection varies depending on the location of the tumor and inthose located in the head is performed pancreaticoduodenectomy, and those located in the body and tail pancreatectomy corporocaudal.
The important thing now is to wait for your husband to recover from another incident and when it is okay to think of the resection of pancreatic cyst.

Hope that helps.
